The University of Maryland is one of the best public research universities in the nation, and it is a global leader on the same. The Xfinity Center
Bitcamp is an annual event which takes place at this center, where tons of tech experts come together to compete, mentor, and showcase their skills in the field. Each participant aims at coming up with a project that can solve a problem in the society and there are thousands of people at the event each year, including recruiters who are out to seek the top talent in the campus and beyond.
Other than being home to this fantastic competition, this center also serves as an indoor arena for student activities such as basketball competitions. The platform is relatively new as its completion came to a finish towards the end of 2002 at the cost of over one hundred and twenty million dollars. With this kind of budget, you’d be right to guess that it is spectacular. The arena has a capacity of seventeen thousand, nine hundred and fifty people and is the largest of its kind in the state of Maryland.
This facility hosts concerts, basketball tournaments, graduation ceremonies as well as other special events in the school.
In the arena, there is a basketball court as well as a gymnasium used for gymnastics, wrestling, and volleyball. Additionally, there is a seven thousand square foot center for student-athletes alongside a multi-purpose room which students and staff can use for meetings and conferences, as well as banquets. Furthermore, there is a team shop, offices, and a walk of fame and history adorning the lobby.
The students have a section reserved for them with four thousand seating spaces covering the first ten rows on all sides of the arena. There is a unique seating space known as the wall which enables the students to face and intimidate opposing players during the free throws in the second half.
